Stress is a natural part of being alive. You need it to breath, digest food and move around.⁠

Our so called stress hormone cortisol is actually more a 'metabolic' one. This means, it gives us energy when it's need fast. ⁠
⁠
When it's time to wake up we naturally release a burst of cortisol which is a trigger for our body clock to reduce our sleep hormone melatonin & we wake up. Cortisol gets us this kick of energy to get up & out of the bed. ⁠
⁠
Add psychological stress from the difficulties of life to the mix then you get more cortisol added to this delicate balance. This is why we can feel extra crappy & anxious in the morning. ⁠

A recent study shows alcohol negatively impacts sleep & diminishes the benefits of physical activity on sleep. Basically it wipes out the results of your training because sleep is an essential activity for among other things, repairing muscle tears which build muscle.⁠

Not only this but the next day due to the 'junk' sleep it was found that people engaged in less physical activity, which had the knock on effect of fragmented sleep - and the cycle continues. ⁠
